No. of Ep: 1 Duration: 120 min
Genre: Documentary/Wildlife/HD
Synopsis:
A travelogue by a writer and adventurer Makoto Shiina into one of the world's most remote communities and wildlife hotspots "the Arctic Circle." The ultimate goal is to pursue one of his long-cherished dreams to witness the legendary one-horned Narwhal and to answer the simple question, "what is the purpose of their extraordinarily long tusks?" The expedition begins from the Canadian town of Churchill known as the "Polar Bear Capitol of the World" as he wends his way to the north. He is met with numerous surprizes and unpredictable challenges along the way, however the dramatic encounter with the polar bears, beluga whales, flocks of northern seabirds prove to be a precious lifetime experience. The spectacular Arctic landscapes and fascinating traditional Inuit culture are also a must-see. The highlight of this expedition is the journey to Baffin Island where Shiina joins the Inuits in their traditional Narwhal hunting. The most conspicious characteristic of the male Norwhal is their extraordinarily long single tusk that can reach up to nearly 10ft. During the 17th century the Narwhal tusk was believed to have been the horn of the mythical creature "the Unicorn."Now, the breathtaking battle between human and Narwhal begins... Will shiina be able to make his longstanding dream become a reality?
